Free Bus Rides, Pride Festival and More
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Metro RTA has decided to make all services free tomorrow August 24, 2019 all day. Metro has already started their free rides every Thursday and has even done free shuttle rides for UA students going from the transit center to the downtown campus area.
The transportation authority is doing free services in the celebration of the pride festival that takes place on Saturday. The Pride festival will be hosted at Hardesty Park in Akron. The Pride parade will start the 1.5 mile walk, starting at the summit county library on W. Market. Equality March will place at 10 am in North Highland Square. The walk will end at Hardesty park where the festival will begin until 7 pm. The 3rd year annual Pride March and Festival is geared to bring equality to everyone. Award winning singer Deborah Cox and Steve Grand will be apart of the event as well as a couple of local artists. From 11am-3pm there will be a Kids Zone for children to also enjoy with many different activities and characters to enjoy the fun with. The Pride festival also helps bring awareness to the LGBTQ community.
The No H8 (No Hate) slogan is to stop the hate on others for their choice of gender roles or who they love. The first Pride March started in NYC where protesters took on to bring awareness. This helps bring awareness to the recent news of the young man who killed himself after coming out and admitting he was in love with a transgender man. After constant bullying and attacks the young man decided to take his own life.
This type of awareness is very important for people to understand that who someone else loves, or what someone does with their own body. Not to hate others but possibly come together to understand each other. It doesn't have to be something you want or even accept but being empathetic helps knock out ignorance. There are a couple of events to help celebrate pride this week. For more information on the pride festival be sure to click the link below.
